It’s no exaggeration to say that Anchorage Brewing makes some pretty legendary American Barleywines. Not only are they responsible for 3 of the top 10 on BeerAdvocate, but every time we secure a stash, it flies off the app in a flash.
But today you’ve got a shot at Save Me #1 before it’s even been bottled!
The team got together with their friends at Horus Aged Ales to create this intricate blend of barrel aged dark brews. They started with Horus’ triple oaked Imperial Stout aged for 28 months in amburana barrels — a Brazilian hardwood known for its alluring baking spice and vanilla nuances. Then they added an Anchorage triple oaked Black Barleywine that matured for 25 months in a selection of Buffalo Trace, 18 year Knob Creek, and 1792 Calumet Farms bourbon barrels.
We haven’t gotten to taste it yet — nobody has! — but with these two crews at the helm, we’re confident that it’ll be another stunner.
Look forward to rich, treacly raisin and molasses tones accentuated by hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and tonka from the barrels. Expect cocoa-y undercurrents that sing in harmony with dried mission figs, a whisper of espresso, and belly-warming bourbon caramel.
