Description:
I’m gonna go out on a limb and bet that, unless you’re part of Fair Isle’s Knitting Circle club, you’ve probably never tasted a beer with kelp in it. But, trust me, it’s well worth a try!
The Seattle team crafted today’s Farmhouse Ale with malted spelt for a soft body. And they infused it with sugar kelp grown by Blue Dot Sea Farm in Hood Canal, about two hours west of the brewery.
Waves of subtle salinity swell through the sip, supported by ripples of rustic grain and buoyed by lemony tang. The light body flows crisp, dry, and effervescent, making it supremely refreshing.
This Gose-like beauty would make an ideal accompaniment to fresh oysters, sushi, or fish tacos. But there’s no need to pair a stunner like this with anything at all.
If you’re feeling generous, you might pick up a few to bring to the bottle share — I’ll bet your craft crew have never had a beer with kelp in it either!
Fans of today’s unique sipper are calling this “Saison of the sea” an “experimental success” and “one of the best Saisons I’ve ever had!”
