The last time we had Scroggin, y’all rated this sumptuous dark brew a 4.42 on the app!
But the 2026 edition might be even more exciting since the brewers used the same barrel aged blend before conditioning it on everything except the Kitchen Sink!
The Sapwood team started with a mix of Imperial Stout aged in rye whiskey, wheated whiskey, and bourbon barrels, a Barleywine aged in bourbon and rye barrels, and a Belgian Quad. Then, taking inspiration from Chef Brock — who runs the Albura Taqueria inside the Sapwood’s taproom — and his kitchen sink cookies, they conditioned it on cacao nibs, pretzels, caramel, peanuts, potato chips, and Unreal chocolate gems.
The end result is a masterclass in balance, with all of the barrels, base beers, and adjuncts swirling in delicious harmony. Enormous cocoay, nutty aromas rise out of every pour with hints of bourbon. On the swig, decadent chocolate covered pretzel tones course into golden caramel plus touches of peanut butter and dark fruit. Let it warm, and more salty sweet complexities appear for all the deliciousness of a sophisticated dessert. Only this dessert hides an 11.5% ABV!
